Summer Fun Camp
Hybrid Program Scheduled for 2021!
"The Wooten Center was there for me when I needed the support the most. They really encourage you to be the best person you can be and they also give you the resources you need to succeed at what you do."
Gift Udeh, Wooten alum / CSUN, electrical engineering student
What is Summer Fun Camp?
The Wooten Center is planning to reopen in summer 2021 with a hybrid program both online and onsite. Registration is open now for our free Summer Fun Camp for grades 3-9, to be held for five weeks from June 21 to July 23. Activities at the center and other sites will include computer animation, project-based STEM classes on renewable energy, swimming, and more on Tue/Thu, 9am-6pm. Private tutoring will continue to be held online Mon-Fri, 2-7pm. Our Shawn Patterson Memorial Basketball Camp will be held our first week -- Mon-Thu online, Fri at the center. Flyer and more details to come.
Summer Fun Camp is a fun and educational summer bridge program for grades 3-9. STEM classes such as animation, engineering, and robotics are offered each year, along with tutoring, performing and visual arts, sports and recreation, field trips and more. Students have a great time while reinforcing the math, reading, writing and science skills oftentimes forgotten over summer, the "summer slide" or "COVID slide."
What about high school students?
High school youth can attend Summer Fun Camp as volunteer or paid Teen Helpers. Paid is dependent on acceptance by one of our employment partners. See Teens for more information. As Teen Helpers, they can attend and participate in activities, including classes and field trips. For information on interviews for summer teen helpers, contact our camp director Christelle Telesford at 323-690-2167.
