What is CollegeTrek?
College preparation should not wait for high school. The Wooten Center starts with grades 3-12 to prepare students to adopt the skills needed to complete their journey to higher education.
CollegeTrek is a tuition-free afterschool program providing homework assistance, assessments and tutoring, STEM classes, world languages and culture with cooking, performing and visual arts, leadership and life skills development, sports and recreation, college tours and scholarships, field trips, and more.
We will be hybrid in Fall 2021 with activities both online and onsite at our youth center at 91st and Western. Transportation will be available from some schools near the center. Snacks are provided daily.
The Wooten Center works in partnership with parents, schools and other partners to help our students achieve good citizenship and academic excellence. Our lesson planning is based on our STEP Model for activities that are Self-Directed, Team-Oriented, Experiential and Project-Based.
Activities like coding, robotics, music production, arts and sciences and more help promote our four college readiness skills: critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creative expression.
Registration for our hybrid afterschool program starting in Fall 2021 is open now.
"Absolutely FANTASTIC - that sums up the staff at Al Wooten who really is more like an extended family with the love, support, and HIGH expectations they have academically not just for our 6th-grade daughter but for all the kids fortunate enough to be a part of this program!"
Jules Fagan, Wooten Parent
