"Absolutely FANTASTIC - that sums up the staff at Al Wooten who really is more like an extended family with the love, support, and HIGH expectations they have academically not just for our 6th-grade daughter but for all the kids fortunate enough to be a part of this program!"

What is CollegeTrek?
College and career preparation should not wait for high school. The Wooten Center provides educational and personal enrichment activities to help students in grades 3-12 develop the skills needed to complete their journey to higher education and life.

CollegeTrek is a tuition-free, hybrid afterschool program offered both online on Zoom and onsite at our youth center at 91st and Western in Los Angeles. Activities include private tutoring, homework assistance, i-Ready online diagnostics in reading and math, STEM, world languages and culture with cooking, performing and visual arts, leadership and life skills development, sports and recreation, college tours and scholarships, field trips, and more.

The Wooten Center is a nonprofit agency providing services at no cost, thanks to our donors. We work in partnership with parents, schools and other partners to achieve our mission to promote good citizenship and academic excellence. Our lesson planning is based on our STEP Model for activities that are Self-Directed, Team-Oriented, Experiential and Project-Based.

STEP activities like coding, robotics, singing, art and more help promote our four college readiness skills: critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creative expression.

Click here for more info on our i-Ready online diagnostics in reading and math in fall, winter and spring. We use i-Ready to assess students challenges, strengths and grade level, and to provide lessons to be used with and without our tutors.
